Thoughts About "Brain Facts Test"

Week 1

Test your Brain Knowledge

Task 5. a.  Check these facts related to the brain and decide if they are correct or incorrect before you move to the next slide.

Task 5. c. Think about the brain facts test and the reading you've just made, and add your thoughts to the COMMENT AREA.

Food for thought: What did you find surprising? What didn't you know about and want to learn more?

An interesting discussion is still going on here.

Like many of my fellow course participants, I was stunned too, by finding out that some of my believes were wrong. Some of these are:

  • "We only use 10% of our brains." It is still hard for me to believe that this is wrong, having in mind for example extrasensory perception (ESP) or some very special abilities that some individuals have and others just don't.
  • The claim about second language was always doubtful to me, so I got it right.
  • Preferred learning styles were surprise, though.
  • This one was a trick too: "Short bouts of co-ordination exercises can improve integration of left and right hemispheric brain function." I would like more evidences for the opposite assertion. Just take the famous claim that piano playing is one of the best way to integrate brain hemispheres.  ♫
  • Concerning a brain work during a sleep - hey, we really don't know what exactly happens! What we all experience during sleep is certainly not brain shut.

Our mind is certainly the most incredible organ in universe that human race is yet to discover.

As for scientists - I am always intrigued by their research, but, honestly - they say one thing one day and something totally opposite the next day ... :)
